Summer 7s Recap

What a summer!

The Furies started out strong with a second place finish at Subaru 7s in Wilmington, DE on May 16th, before official practices even commenced. From there the goal was to have fun the rest of the summer, developing new skills and working together – and that’s just what we did.

Our new Coach, Gwesyn Price-Jones was welcomed to the team, flying all the way to DC from Wales, and was a major asset throughout the summer, with a vast knowledge of and passion for the sport and an unwavering dedication to helping the team improve. We are hoping to continue our collaboration with Coach Gwes as we look toward the Fall and our competitive 15s season.

The Furies huddle up at Cape Fear

The Furies had dozens of new players, from newcomers to the DC area to visiting summer college players, and it was a blast watching the gears turn as veterans and newcomers began to click on the field.

Some highlights from the Furies 7s season include Furies B winning it all and taking first place at the Monk Vaughan 7s tournament in Richmond, Va on June 20th. On July 11th, Furies A took third at Ruggerama 7s in Leesburg, Va in a beautiful act of vengeance with a 22-5 win over Philly Women after losing to them during pool play. Per usual the Furies had a great weekend at Cape Fear in Wilmington, NC over July 4th weekend going 2-2 for the tournament with wins over Chesapeake and NOVA III.

Special thanks to our captains Sharifa Love and Maggie Olney, to our coaches Gwesyn Price-Jones and Dre Khoury and to our guest coaches Katie Bell, Joanna Bader and Brigid Beech who filled in the gaps when we needed extra help – without them this spectacular summer would not have been possible! Next the Furies pick 15s back up in the Fall with matches beginning the weekend of September 12th, the match schedule for both WPL and DII can be found under the ‘Schedule’ tab above and we hope to see some of you out supporting!

Proud to be a Fury!
