Fall weather is settling in, which means it’s time for the competitive XV’s season to start again. The DC Furies are excited to kick off our second year of fielding two competitive sides. This is the team’s sixth year competing in the Women’s Premier League and the second year competing at Division 2 level in the Capital Geographic Union.
Leading the WPL team are captains Jaime Albarelli (8-man) and Hunter Griendling (center). Leni Dworkis (hooker) and Keemi Ereme (lock) are the Division 2 captains. These four women show their Fury spirit in their hard work in leading the team on and off the field. They set an example through their strong work ethic, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit.
The Furies will be practicing this fall at Jefferson Middle School on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. New players are always welcome.
Be sure to check out the match schedule and mark your calendars with the dates to come support the Furies!
The team hosted a great clinic on Sunday, September 7 to work on specific skills amongst backs and forwards. Renowned guest coaches included Farrah Douglas, Nancy Fitz, and Krista McFarren. This dynamic trio brings years of rugby experience at the international level for our players to learn from. Check out photos from the clinic at our facebook page.
For our active players, the fall season means a lot of fun rugby time, but there is also work to be done to get everything in order for the rugby year. Read on for a checklist to complete to be fully registered, paid up, and ready to play XV’s.
There have been a lot of announcements about what each player needs to have done to be ready to play this fall, from the administrative side of things. Here is a checklist of those items. Be sure to complete them all to be fully eligible to play. Questions? Feel free to contact any of the team leadership through Teamsnap, or the emails listed on the Contacts page.
• Register with USA Rugby
Commonly referring to as “CIPP-ing,” all active players must register with USA Rugby to be eligible to play. Click here to complete your registration.
• Pay your dues
Every player must pay club dues each season. Dues must be paid in full, or a payment plan in place with the club treasurer, before the first match of the season. Dues for rookies are $65, returning players pay $70. Payment can be made via check made out to WWRFC, cash in a clearly labeled envelope, or Paypal.
• Update your availability
If you want playing time, be sure to update your availability on Teamsnap. Coaches and captains use teamsnap to plan practices and make selections for games, so it is important that they know players’ availability. Also take the moment to update any personal information that may have changed.
• Insurance and Citizenship
The club Secretary holds a copy of every active players’ insurance card and proof of citizenship. These are used in the event of an emergency, and for official rostering, respectively. If you are new to the team, please provide Elske with a copy of both items. Any returning players with new information should also update that now.
