On March 15 & 16th several DC Furies attended the USA Rugby Academy High Performance Training Camp powered by Serevi, held at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Led by USA Rugby Women’s 7s Head Coach Ric Suggit and USA Rugby 7s & 15s Eagle Emilie Bydwell, the camp allowed the Furies and players from across the region to be develop their rugby skills in a high performance environment. Over the course of the two day camp, players worked on developing their decision making, execution of core rugby skills, and creativity, while being challenged in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
All of the Furies in attendance commented that they had a great experience at the camp. Furies Sharifa Love and Christina Animashaun were particularly grateful to have been awarded scholarships to attend the camp from Serevi and World Rugby Shop. “I loved working with the coaching staff on perfecting the fundamentals of good rugby and playing out live scenarios with the other camp attendees,” said Sharifa. “The focus was on creative rugby moving into space which is what I love about 7s. I would recommend Serevi camp to anyone who wants to broaden their understanding of the game and have a really good time while working to develop their skills.”
The Furies will be showing off their newly learned skills this weekend at the 35th annual Ruggerfest tournament and throughout the course of the 7s season, which begins May 17th.
