The Furies first home games of the season were played this past Saturday and it was a great day of rugby for all!
Furies vs. Keystone
The Furies came out very strong in the first match vs Keystone setting a brutal defensive tone from the get go. Capitalizing on a turnover DC scored in the first five minutes proving they were there to play. Using stellar defense and executing crisp support lines, DC continued to push Keystone down the field scoring both a penalty kick and another try in the first half and heading into the break with a 13-0 lead. Keystone came out stronger in the second half and DC had to work much harder to gain offensive ground. Both teams managed to score two tries in the 2nd half, as DC let up on the defense toward the end. It was a great effort both offensively and defensively for the Furies and a great base for the rest of the season. Coach Fitz comments: “We executed our fundamentals well in terms of passing and catching, setting a defensive line and coming up when the ball was out and protecting the ball in contact. Our rate of maintaining possession in contact was very high.” Great job Furies!
Half: Furies 13 – Keystone 0
Final: Furies 27 – Keystone 12

Furies vs. Norfolk
The Furies continued the day with 3 periods versus a Norfolk team with good enough southern weather to already have played 3 matches this season. While the score did not end up in DC’s favor, great rugby was played by the team. Throughout all three periods the team improved on building a defensive wall and learned how to be more creative on offensive. While there was difficulty maintaining possession at the point of contact against an aggressive Norfolk squad, ball retention improved greatly throughout the afternoon. By the third period, DC was even creating turnovers at the ruck! The Furies also began to develop stronger support lines and offensive continuity was much improved in the latter periods. Congratulations to all the Furies who played vs. Norfolk and a special welcome to all the rookies who had their first match wearing the Blue and Gold. We’re proud to have you!
